Estimados amigos.
Con el gusto de saludarlos, quiero enviarles un Agradecimiento Total en nombre del COLEGIO DE ORTOPEDIA Y TRAUMATOLOGIA DE AGUASCALIENTES AC, por su apoyo brindado en los diferentes eventos académico que hemos realizado en este Estado. a) 4º FORO REGIONAL "Manejo de las Lesiones de Rodilla en el Paciente Joven". Que realizaremos el sábado 19 de Julio 2014. Hotel Fiesta Americana. Para este evento tendremos una gran participación de profesores de gran calidad y experiencia en dichas lesiones y en su tratamiento artroscópico. Este evento ha sido avalado por el CMOT, otorgando 2 puntos para la vigencia de certificación para los asistentes.
Recordarles que durante este evento, tendremos el "TALLER: Vigencia de certificación". Que será impartida por el Dr. Mario Castellanos, Presidente del CMOT.
Ante cualquier duda, no duden en preguntarnos y con gusto les apoyaremos, la mesa directiva esta a sus órdenes.

Desde el nacimiento el niño experimenta diferentes fases de crecimiento y desarrollo. El crecimiento de los diferentes segmentos corporales no es similar; el crecimiento de los miembros superiores es más precoz que el de los miembros inferiores y el pie crece más rápidamente que el resto del miembro inferior. Las variaciones en el desarrollo suelen ocurrir en los primeros años de vida y suelen confundirse frecuentemente con deformidades. Se incluyen por ejemplo el pie plano y las piernas arqueadas. Estas variaciones del desarrollo suelen corregirse espontáneamente y rara vez ameritan tratamiento.

OBJECTIVE: To develop guidelines for performing initial skeletal survey
(SS) in children ,24 months old with fractures, based on available
evidence and collective judgment of experts from diverse pediatric
specialties.
METHODS: Following the Rand/UCLA Method, a multispecialty panel of
13 experts applied evidence from a literature review combined with
their own expertise in rating the appropriateness of performing
an SS for 525 clinical scenarios involving fractures in children ,24
months old. After discussion on the initial ratings, panelists rerated
SS appropriateness for 240 revised scenarios and deemed that SSs
were appropriate in 191 scenarios. The panelists then assessed in
which of those 191 scenarios SSs were not only appropriate, but also
necessary.
RESULTS: Panelists agreed that SS is “appropriate” for 191 (80%) of
240 scenarios rated and “necessary” for 175 (92%) of the appropriate
scenarios. Skeletal survey is necessary if a fracture is attributed to
abuse, domestic violence, or being hit by a toy. With few exceptions,
SS is necessary in children without a history of trauma. In children
,12 months old, SS is necessary regardless of the fracture type or
reported history, with rare exceptions. In children 12 to 23 months
old, the necessity of obtaining SS is dependent on fracture type.
CONCLUSIONS: A multispecialty panel reached agreement on multiple
clinical scenarios for which initial SS is indicated in young children
with fractures, allowing for synthesis of clinical guidelines with the
potential to decrease disparities in care and increase detection of
abuse.

Can acupuncture treat back pain?
Acupuncture has relatively good evidence in the literature for treatment of chronic nonspecific low back pain. Several studies show that it can work better than ususal care which includes medications or physical therapy. Interestingly, randomized controlled trials did not show acupuncture to be superior to a sham acupuncture procedure. Acupuncture treatments usually consist of weekly visits, and it may take up to 5 session before noticing a benefit. Because of the out-of-pocket expense, acupuncture is often not the first line of treatment for low back pain. Patients I treat have usually failed all other treatments. Despite this, I am still able to get some results in this difficult population. Due to its good safety profile and minimally invasive nature, I think acupuncture is a good option for anyone that wants to try a more alternative approach to low back pain.

¿Puede la acupuntura tratar el dolor de espalda?
La acupuntura tiene relativamente buena evidencia en la literatura para el tratamiento de la lumbalgia crónica inespecífica. Varios estudios demuestran que puede funcionar mejor que la atención habitual, que incluye medicamentos o terapia física. Curiosamente, los ensayos controlados aleatorios no mostraron que la acupuntura sea superior a un procedimiento de acupuntura simulada. Los tratamientos de acupuntura por lo general consisten en visitas semanales, y puede tardar hasta 5 sesiones antes de notar un beneficio. Debido a los gastos fuera de bolsillo, la acupuntura no es a menudo la primera línea de tratamiento para el dolor de espalda baja. Taking Off: The Impact of Spaceflight on Musculoskeletal Tissue

During the past two years, orthopaedic researchers have had a unique opportunity to study the impact of microgravity, such as that experienced during spaceflight, on musculoskeletal tissues. Over the course of three space shuttle missions, a NASA mouse-tissue Biospecimen Sharing Program looked at the effects of spaceflight not only on bone and muscle but also on cartilage and tendon. Three investigators involved in the program—Stavros Thomopoulos, PhD; Jeffrey C. Lotz, PhD; and Eduardo Almeida, PhD—presented “New Insights into the Effects of Spaceflight in Musculoskeletal Tissues” to members of the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS).
“This is the dream of every animal studies committee,” noted Dr. Thomopoulos in his introduction; “it was probably the best utilization of animals that I’ve ever seen. The animals were dissected and every tissue was passed on to a different researcher for a specific study.” His studies covered the rotator cuff—from muscle to tendon to bone.
